It’s not long now. With you, all together, we will try to reinterpret a piece of bountiful nature. We are trying, because we already know: our wisdom is impotent before its simplicity. We have not invented anything. What we can do is listen to the energy of the mountains, perceive it, assimilate it and let it be transformed and emerge from all its pores: that energy that gives us drive, that makes us live, that is our passion, invades us and pervades us.
Feeling the vibrations that run up our spines to hedonistically enjoy them or internalize them: it’s no small thing.
Mad poets or natural heroes? “the petrol is running out”, “in a little while it won’t hurt any more”, “wear a hair shirt”, “pray and pedal” are some of the many thoughts and it is very exhausting but the joy of crossing the Pordoi Pass, the symbol of a glorious past, will be immense, being captivated by  the mysticism of the Falzarego Pass. Experiencing the awareness on the passes – even more so with the mystical music of this year -, being alone with yourself, but feeling part of the pack. Looking up at the sky and letting a few tears escape. One shiver, another and yet another: in so many immense and intense instants to realize that in life it not the breaths we take that count but the moments that are breathtaking.
The wait is anxious, talking over a beer, giving a slap on the back, thinking back to the months that have passed and the kilometres that have been covered; all that strictness and discipline. It will be a joy to brag to friends at the pub and gently whisper to your grandchildren the same thing: I’m going there, in the middle of the mountains, it’ll be a great slog. The rest of the story is personal, it is the dream that each of us makes come true. Each of us would like to leave a part of ourselves here, each of you, we hope, will leave a part of yourselves here.
