Charity projects 2013
SPECIAL COMMITMENT FOR SPECIAL NEEDS: TOGETHER FOR GLOBAL HARMONY
In 2013, once again, we offered special registrations at an increased price, the difference of which have been allocated to two associations: one is the Südtiroler Sporthilfe (www.sporthilfe.it) which supports real sporting talent, young people who cannot afford to finance their competitions, and the other is the Association of Groups of Belluno "Insieme si può" ("Together we can") non-profit making organization NPA/NGO (www.365giorni.org) which supported one project related to people who live with a disability.
This project was implemented in Uganda to improve the quality of life of disabled people, trying to help the last amongst the last, in one of the poorest countries in the world. It is a project to guarantee medical aid, rehabilitation, food and promote economic independence. The beneficiaries were people with physical and/or mental handicaps, both individually and in 4 specialized facilities (in Mubende, Kiwanga, Kireka and Mapeera).
Sharon is 10 years old and is severely disabled, due to a disease contracted in the first days of her life. Her family is very poor and it was impossible to pay for treatment. Sharon was enrolled in the Kampala School for Children with Disabilities, she was given her first wheelchair and sessions of physiotherapy. Her mother has been helped to start a commercial business to help the family become self-sufficient.
Keith is a 13 year old boy who is deaf and dumb due to malaria which he caught when he was only 8 months old. ISP paid for his school fees in a carpentry school for deaf and dumb youngsters where he is getting on well and the teachers are pleased with him. His mother has been helped to start a small CD and DVD store and will pay for Keith’s school fees next year.
Rosaline is 4 years old. She was born with a congenital amniotic band syndrome and lives with her very poor family in Karamoja. She has had an operation to correct her left leg and has been given an artificial limb for her right leg. Rosaline has made really… gigantic steps! She can now walk, in an upright position!
Miracle is the mother of three children, she is 30 years old and for 15 years she has had osteomyelitis: she could have been treated for some time, but she could not afford the treatment from specific doctors. Thanks to two orthopaedic operations and regular medical and rehabilitative treatment, Miracle today can walk and uses only one crutch. She has also been given support in starting a fish frying business.
We could also tell you about Maragareth, Badru, Proscovia, John, Kagimu, Antonia, Joshua, Churchill, Sharifah, Ronald, Tecleab, Irene, Peter, Harriet, Jethro… there are more than 200 beneficiaries, women, men and children and in their name we also thank you immensely for the dignity and the future that, together, we have returned to them.
