You can also ride the Maratona in the office

The organization of a large-scale event requires meticulous work carried out by collaborators who work energetically at their computers and rush between paperwork, documents, phone calls, and a thousand other tasks. Let's hear what Sara Valentini has to say about this.

1. As a member of the Maratona office, what do you do in particular?

I’m responsible for sourcing accommodation and restaurants for collaborators, as well as managing logistics, accounting, press accreditation, Hospitality and the online shop. In the weeks before the Maratona, there’s truly everything to do, so, in short, “boredom” is definitely not on the agenda!

2. Have you been working for the Maratona for a long time?

It’s my fourth edition.

3. What do you like best and least in your job?

The work atmosphere truly makes a difference: I’m fortunate to collaborate with outstanding colleagues. Moreover, my job allows me to connect with many people, both from the world of cycling and from everyday life.

4. Do you have a funny story to tell us?

Well, maybe I can tell this one… at least in part. My amazing colleagues decided to play a little prank on me: a beautiful personalized mouse pad. The day was so busy that it took me hours to even notice it! And, to be honest, every now and then I still find a new “ornament” on my desk… a clear sign that a good sense of humor is never in short supply here!

5. Where are you during the race?

The alarm goes off early, we’re already up and running by 5:00 a.m., and the day wraps up around 9:00 p.m. It feels endless… and yet it flies by in an instant. It’s one of those intense days that fill your heart with satisfaction and joy. On race day, I’m in several places throughout the day: in the morning I’m at the start, then I move to Corvara, to the heliport, where I coordinate helicopter flights for sponsors. Later, I’m at the entrance to the Hospitality area, and in the late afternoon I’m back in the office, checking the return of materials and the dismantling of the race office and shop. And if exhaustion doesn’t take over, there’s always time for a pizza and a beer, shared with colleagues and collaborators.

6. Do you ride a bicycle? In other words, do you pedal or just watch from afar?

I started road cycling two years ago, and since then it has become a true passion. In September 2025, I took part in the Sellaronda Bike Day: experiencing the real route was an intense, emotional, and truly unforgettable experience.

7. How many kilometres do you ride each year?

In 2025, I rode 633 km; this year, the goal is to surpass 833 km… well, that’s the plan, at least.

8. What’s your favourite mountain pass?

Passo Gardena is probably the one that feels most like home to me.

9. Describe the Maratona in three words.

Emotion – UNESCO World Heritage – Personal achievement
