When the wood grouse starts singing and dancing to find love, the red buds begin to appear on the larch trees and the first gentianella start sprouting up here and there, we know that the Maratona can’t be far away. We know that we haven’t got long to wait for those energy-packed days in the build up to the race, for that somersault of joy I feel when I see you all here, all together, perfectly balanced on two wheels. If I think about balance, I think about all the beauty that surrounds us, to that delicate balance of many small elements coming together, all playing an equally important role in creating perfect harmony. Sometimes, it’s a matter of seconds, a minute detail, arriving a little too late or a little too early, one word too many or a thought that you didn’t see through - that’s all you need to lose this balance. The sun is too hot, the Mür dl Giat too steep, a wind gets up and blows against you, sometimes rocks may fall from a Dolomite mountain and cause some damage, and the wood grouse has stopped his mating dance. Perhaps Mother Nature, tickled by the passing clouds, wants to tell us this: even though we may sometimes lose our balance, we shouldn't lose heart, because all we need is a smile, a kind word, a handshake, a pat on the back, or a nice thought, to find that balance once again. More often than not, you’ll find that being well-balanced puts you in a good mood too.
See you soon!
