Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel - 6th July 2025

The Essence of the Dolomites in a Medal

These are no ordinary medals—they are unique pieces, authentic expressions of the harmonious fusion between the natural beauty of the Dolomites and the artisanal excellence of their creators. This year, the medal is deeply connected to the theme of light – LÜM. Why? We'll explain in the following lines.

The color of the stone used recalls the hues of the mountains—particularly the Sass dla Crusc Mountain—during the phenomenon of Enrosadira, which casts a magical glow over our majestic peaks.
Enrosadira is an optical phenomenon typical of the Dolomites, where the mountain summits turn shades of pink, orange, and red at sunrise and sunset.

At the heart of these precious medals lie carefully selected materials: 1.5 cubic meters of swiss stone pine wood boards, each 60 mm thick. But the true protagonist is the red stone sand, collected at the foot of the magnificent Sas dla Crusc (Sasso Santa Croce, in Badia). This is a place where the land itself carries the legacy of the stone, with names like “Crëpa cöcena” (big red rock) and “Piz Cöce” (red hill).

The creation process begins with cutting the swiss stone pine wood boards into smaller pieces. The LÜM logo is then applied using a traditional wood-burning technique. Next comes the red stone, first broken, then ground into a fine powder. This sand is sieved and carefully inlaid into the engraved LÜM logo, then gently brushed. From the smoothed boards, around 8,000 wooden discs are cut.

On the back of each medal, the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel logo is stamped, along with the word „finisher“ and the date. A hole is drilled for the ribbon, turning these wooden pieces into tangible memories of an epic challenge and an unforgettable experience among the Dolomite peaks.

This handcrafted process was made possible by the creative vision of Daniel Frenes and the valuable support of MALBO SRL. Our heartfelt thanks go to them for helping bring to life, once again, eight thousand unique, beautiful, and meaningful medals.

Now, it’s your turn to earn them!
