Conditions of entry

(applicable to foreign participants)

3 Starting order:
Division into groups as follows (times refer to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 marathons):

1) Group A at 6,45 a.m.

138km women under 8h mins / Men under 5h 35 mins

106km women under 5h 30 mins / Men under 3h 45 mins

2) Group B following

138km Men under 6h 15 mins

All Women not starting in the 1st group

106km Men under 4h30 mins

3) Group C following

138km Men under 8h

All registrations not subject to the draw: packages, 2007 cancellations, fidelity-members

106km Men under 6h

4) Group D following

Those who do not come under the time limits shown above.


Cyclists who start before the assigned group will be disqualified;

4 Routes: There are 3 possible routes for the 2008 Maratona dles Dolomites. Participants are free to select the route best suited to their ability, also during the course of the event, entirely according to their own judgement.

5 Entry: Open to all adult male and female riders. Minors over 15 (fifteen)may also enter for the short distance (55 and 106 km), but cannot run the 138 km long course. Cyclists older than 65 (sixtyfive) must submit a medical certificate that may not be dated previous to January 1st 2008 and may also run the shortest courses. The 2008 Marathon is by invitation and the Organizing Committee may decide at any time whether to accept or not the enrolment or to exclude at any time an enrolled contestant for the event that may damage the image of the event. No registrations from participants who have been disqualified for the use of drugs will be accepted. The 2008 Marathon has a closed number of registrations to be divided equally between Italian and International contestants.

6 Division of the applications for entry: The 2008 Marathon estimates a participation of 8,500 competitors divided as follows: 5,500 entries by draw among all pre-registrations sent via the Internet, by fax or mail; 3,000 entries reserved for official tour-operators, registrations not subject to the draw and registrations whose surcharge will be assigned to charitable institutions.
Registrations not subject to the draw are the ones made by “fidelity members”, members who participated at more than 10 (ten) editions of the Maratona, and the cancellations in 2007 that have regularly sent the request for deferring the participation fee to 2008 edition.
Pre-registered participants not drawn on November 2007 and not drawn and therefore not reported in the starting list in the last two editions 2006 and 2007 will be readmitted to the race.
The 5,500 entries by draw will be divided in single requests, cumulative requests with 2 (two) to 4 (four) members or cumulative requests with 5 (five) or more members, in proportion to all requests sent to the organisation.

7 Opening date for entry: It will be possible to pre-enter for the 2008 Marathon from October 18th to November 8th 2007. Pre-entries sent prior or after that date will not be taken into consideration.
Starting packages offered by our official Tour operators will be sold at following links www.maratona.it and www.altabadia.org.
150 registrations whose surcharge will be assigned to charitable institutions will be sold departing 28th November 2007 and other 150 registrations departing 28th march 2008.

8 Pre-entry –who needs doing it and how to do it
8.1 Who needs to pre-enter: the pre entry has to be sent by all participants that want to take part in the race including the “fidelity-members” that do not need to participate at the draw.
No pre-entry is required for participants that transferred their 2007 registration-fee to 2008 within the terms, for participants buying a package by our official tour operator or registrations whose surcharge will be assigned to charitable institutions.
Participants that transferred the registration to 2008’s edition will be sent a personal form to fill out and send back to the organisation by 18th of April 2008 for confirming their participation to the race in June 2008.

8.2 How to pre-enter: The pre-entry can be made online by completing the pre-entry form on our site www.maratona.it and paying the pre-entry fee of 2,00 € by credit card or by paying 2,00 € into a bank account or by postal transfer and sending the entry form with a copy of the payment by fax or ordinary mail; see under point 11 of the regulations the instructions for completing the entry form (you can also download the entry form at www.maratona.it)
Sports clubs can send copy of cumulative payment and list of all the members for having the possibility to be extracted as a group. For the draw they will be given a number (means one possibility) each 7 (seven) participants with a maximum of 5 numbers pro group.
Only one entry request per person is admitted, participants that send a double entry will be disqualified for the next two years.
The draw will be held on the 16th November 2007 and by then the participants admitted to the race can definitely register for the race from the day after the draw to 18th April 2008.
The complete list of participants drawn will be published on our homepage a day after the draw.

9 Participation fee: is 70,00 € and includes 10,00 € for the guarantee deposit of the chip. The 2,00 € pre-entry fee is not part of the registration fee and will not be returned or considered as payment on account.
Please note that the chip costs 34,00 € and that if the chip is not returned, the difference of 20,00 € will be requested by invoice. In the event of failure to return the chip or to pay the invoice, no entry will be accepted for the following year.
Payment of the entry fee entitles participants of using the repair service (spare parts not included), assistance and refreshments along the route, pasta-party at the finish, marathon jersey, finisher pin, race number, infos by e-mail and sms; free participation at all activities during the biker’s week. The classification will be published in the press or Maratona homepage www.maratona.it where the participants can also download and print their diploma.

10 Confirmation of entry
The participants drawn can confirm their entry from the day after the draw in November 2007 till April 18th 2008. All pre-entries not confirmed by that deadline will automatically be annulled.
The entry is considered complete when payment of the participation fee and all details required at point 11 of the regulations have been sent to the organisation by the internet or by fax or ordinary mail.
At any time it is possible to see if the entry has been accepted or not and to check the own enrolment position on our homepage www.maratona.it.

11 Enrolment procedure
- On-line through the Internet site www.maratona.it by credit card;
- By bank - payment into bank account: : IBAN: IT45R 08010 58180 000302014645 – SWIFT (BIC) RZSBIT21208
- By postal transfer: payment by Eurocheque or international postal transfer cheque in favour of: Comitato Maratona dles Dolomites, I-39036 Pedraces 41, (BZ).
When the transfer has been effected, the photocopy of the transfer receipt or, if applicable, the Eurocheque, should be sent to the organizers together with the enrolment form which is also available on the official homepage www.maratona.it and must contain all the details requested: name, surname, address, birthdate, e-mail, mobile number, jersey size and signature (without a signature, the registration will be null).
Teams should effect a cumulative bank transfer or Eurocheque and send a copy of the bank receipt or the Eurocheque together with the list of athletes who intend entering for 2008’s race, complete with all the information requested on the entry form (which can also be printed from the Internet) and signed by the head of the cycling club must.
Please bring the bank receipt with you so that misunderstandings may be avoided.
Each participant will receive, by 18.06.2008 by ordinary mail, the voucher with the assigned number that is necessary to collect the material on the Marathon in the three days before the event. The teams’ head will get the complete list of participants registered for the team for picking up the starting material for the whole team.

12 Replacements and withdrawal: Replacements are possible within the same team among participants that have already completed their registration. Replacements can be made until 4th June 2008 upon payment of a 10,00 € processing fee.
Fidelty members, participants that already transferred the registration from 2007 and participants admitted to the race because not drawn in 2006 and 2007’ editions cannot be replaced. Click here for downloading the replacement form. Any extensions of the closing date of the replacements will be notified on the website. Those unable to participate are not entitled to any reimbursement of their fee. If a withdrawal is announced before 18.06.2008, the only participation fee (60,00 €) can be transferred to 2009. For 2009’s participation a form will be sent in October 2008 to fill out and send back by paying the difference of participation-fee 2009.

13 Distribution of numbers:
In Pedraces, Alta Badia:
Thursday, 26.06.2008 from 9 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
Friday, 27.06.2008 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday 28.06.2008 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For teams only the team leader needs appear, with a list of the enrolled persons. An original ID is required for picking up the starting number.

14 Time limit
Corvara direction Campolongo (55km) 11.15 a.m.
Cernadoi direction Passo Giau (76km) 12.00 a.m.
Finish: 55km 2 p.m. 106km and 138km 4.30 p.m.

15 Maximum limit for assistance: Refreshments and mechanical and medical assistance will be guaranteed until the following time:
Passo Gardena 12.30 a.m. Passo Campolongo 12.00 a.m.
Colle S.Lucia 12.30 a.m. Passo Giau 2.00 p.m.
Passo Falzarego 4.00 p.m.

16 Checkpoints: Observance of these is mandatory, both at the start and along the chosen route. Anyone starting before the official starting signal is given, or whose start is not registered by the officials, shall be considered a nonstarter and their name will not appear in the finishing order.

17 Team and individual competition: All the competitive and amateur cyclists will take part in the individual classifications. These will be drawn up on the basis of the time taken to cover the distance and not according to the order of arrival.
For team classification all participants arrived within the time limit will be considered.. The classification of teams shall be based on the total number of kilometres covered by the various team members. win trophies or cups. The official prizegiving-ceremony will take place at 5.00 p.m. in the Finish Area. Following prizes will be handed over: The top 10 (ten) teams for the Enervit Cup, the top 5 (five) teams for the Dolomites Trophy, the first 3 (three) in the overall individual classification and the first classified in each category for the medium and Maratona distances.The Sellaronda course does not forsee an official classification.

18 Medical service: The medical backup service comprises ambulances manned by doctors and nursing staff with helicopter support.

19 Mobile and mechanical assistance: The assistance of private vehicles following the race is strictly prohibited, under penalty of disqualification of the athlete.

20 Safety helmets: COMPULSORY DURING ALL THE RACE

21 Definition of the event: The “Maratona dles Dolomites” is a large-scale event for touring cyclists during which all participants must obey the rules of the road.

22 Protests: Any protests must reach the jury before the specified deadline, together with the fee as laid down in the Italian Cycling Federation regulations.

24 Important: The road between Corvara and La Villa will be closed to traffic (including cyclists) at 6.25. The cyclists should therefore take due note. (Anybody who has not entered the grid 10 minutes before the start will be automatically diverted to the last starting grid). It is also compulsory to carry a kit for puncture repairs during the race. Carry spare clothing and a waterproof garment in case of bad weather.

25 Cancellation of the event: If the event has to be cancelled due to exceptional circumstances there is no refund of the entry fee but the organisation reserve the right to start in 2009 after completing the registration procedure as requested for coming edition.

26 Alterations: The organizers reserve the right to make alterations to the programme. All official communications and any re-opening of registrations will be notified on the website www.maratona.it

27 Disqualification: Participants wearing the number of another cyclist, giving the number to others or any other grave fact which is detected by the organization will be punished by disqualification from the event for two or five years. Competitors who dispose of litter outside the marked areas will also be disqualified. An appeal is made to the public spirit of the participants not to throw litter along the roads, but to dispose of it in the special bins at the refreshment points.

28 Signature: With the signature on the enrolment form, the participant accepts the above mentioned instructions and confirms that he is in possession of a privat insurance, a third party insurance and the medical certificate according to D.M.V. 18/02/1992 and is in the condition to take part at the long course race. Each participant carries the complete responsibility for his state of health on the marathon occasion. For accidents during the race the organisation comitee will not take upon the liability.
